On behalf of the French Ministry of Transport, the UTAC Information
Systems Department developed a very large database for UTAC/OTC
(France's central vehicle technical inspection authority).
This system, set up by UTAC in 1992, manages and processes
data from the 15 million vehicle inspections conducted in
France each year. It currently holds data on over 120 million
inspections, concerning over 40 million vehicles.
The data is updated daily and gives a very accurate picture
of the French cars at any given time. The database can be
processed for various applications, such as the control of
the inspection facilities.
Data analysis by the UTAC Information Systems Department
also provides valuable input for improving the vehicle inspection
process (equipment and method) and for informing and training
the vehicle inspection technicians.
